Sooners Qualify for Winter Cup Finals

ESPN2 to Air Sooners' Title Run

NORMAN, Okla.   The University of Oklahoma men's gymnastics team and its run for a seventh NCAA title will air on ESPN2, Cox channel 28, on Tuesday, April 11 at 1:30 p.m. CST as a tape-delay.

OU took the 2006 NCAA Title Friday night after posting the nation's highest score of the 2006 season, a 221.4.  The Sooners were led by sophomore captain Jonathan Horton who took the all-around title with a score of 56.0. 

Horton also took individual titles on the floor exercise (9.575) and still rings (9.637) and became the only other Sooner in program history to win three career individual national championships. Bart Conner, a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, won the all-around in 1977 and 1978 and also won the floor exercise in 1979.

Oklahoma entered Friday night's finals as the No. 1 seed and outlasted No. 4 Illinois (220.975) for the program's fourth national title in five years and a 2006 record of 31-0. 

Saturday night saw six Sooners collect a school-record 14 All-America honors.  Horton led the way, collecting five honors and setting the school record for All-America honors in a career with 10 (Conner - nine).
