NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 6 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team will make its sixth appearance to the NCAA National Championships on April 20-22, in Corvallis, Ore., at the Gill Coliseum.
Oklahoma qualified for the championships Friday, April 7, after winning the Central Regional in Baton Rouge, La., at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The Sooners finished with a 196.375 team score and LSU came in second at 195.825.
“We are extremely excited to be heading to the national championships,” said head coach Steve Nunno. “We have been a very consistent team this year and the girls have really worked hard in the gym. I think our best meet is yet to come.”
OU will be in the first session with Alabama, Nebraska, Michigan, Utah and LSU. The Sooners will start on vault in the first rotation before having bye in the second.

In its history, OU has advanced to the NCAA Championship only five prior times. The last time OU saw action at the title meet was in 2005 when they finished 12th. The Sooners' other appearances were in 1985, 1989, 2001, 2004 and 2005.
Under the tutelage of head coach Steve Nunno, it will be the third appearance to the championships for Oklahoma.
The championships begin Thursday, April 20, with the top three teams from two sessions advancing to the team finals, the "Super Six", on Friday.
