Wright Leading Sooners in the Right Direction

NORMAN, Okla. With a huge contribution from sophomore Heather Wright, the Oklahoma women's golf team is in 11th place with a 319 (+31) after Friday's first round of the Liz Murphy Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga.  Oklahoma is 21 strokes behind leader Wake Forest.

Wright, who has competed in every tournament this season, is leading the way for the Sooners with a tie for 12th place after firing a 76 (+4) in the first round.  True freshman Kendall Dye, junior Jaclyn Stelzer and junior Megan Goodwin are all playing at the same pace.  The trio is tied for 55th place after shooting an 81 (+9).  Dye led the Sooners at last week's Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational with a tie for 11th place.  Sophomore Kelly Jacques posted an 83 (+11) and finished the day in a tie for 70th.

The second round will be played Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. with the final round being played Sunday.  The tournament host is the University of Georgia and it is being played at the 6,228-yard, par-72 University of Georgia Golf Course.
