Football in Everest for Second Day

NORMAN, Okla. -- The OU football team spent the second consecutive practice of the spring inside the Everest Training Center on Wednesday afternoon.

The Sooners worked in shells for a little over two hours on the synthetic turf. A small photo gallery accompanies this release. More extensive galleries will be available when the weather permits the team to practice outdoors.

OU head coach Bob Stoops said he saw marked improvement when comparing the workouts on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"It was quite a bit better," he commented. "We are still a long way from where we want to be, but today was definitely cleaner."

Stoops said his staff unveils a lot of new material for the team during spring drills.

"We come out with everything," he said. "I've been at places where there has been a focus on two or three things, but we're not like that. I'm not saying that's right or wrong; it's just the way we do it.

"We are so multiple that we don't have time to come out and be real simple."

Stoops was particularly pleased with the defensive backs on Wednesday.

"They looked real good," he admitted. "D.J. (Wolfe) and Reggie (Smith) have a chance to be exceptional."

Smith, who played safety last season, spent much of Wednesday's workout at the cornerback position.

OU will practice again Friday at approximately 3:45 p.m. If the current weather forecast holds, that practice will be outdoors and open to the public.

On Saturday, the Sooners will hold their first spring scrimmage. The practice, which will be held in the stadium, is set to begin at 11 a.m., with the actual scrimmage slated for noon. It is expected that the scrimmage will end around 1:30 p.m.

2006 OU SPRING FOOTBALL SPECIFICS
A complete practice schedule is available online. Unless otherwise noted, Oklahoma's spring practices are open to the public. Most will be held on the practice fields immediately south of Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium and will begin around 3:30 p.m.
