Women's Golf Among Nation's Best in Academics

Sooners in 12th place in Austin

NORMAN, Okla. After one round at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas, the Oklahoma women's golf team is in 12th place with a 319 (+31).  The Sooners are trailing leader Texas A&M by 21 strokes.

 

Lone senior Amparo Gala and true freshman Kendall Dye are tied for 36th place with a one-round score of 79 (+7).  Sophomore Heather Wright finished the day tied for 44th place with an 80 (+8).  After shooting an 81 (+9), junior Jaclyn Stelzer is tied for 59th place while sophomore Kelly Jacques posted an 82 (+10), good for a 63rd place tie.  Redshirt freshman Staci Smoot, who is competing as an individual, carded an 85 (+13) in the first round to finish the day tied for 76th place.

 

The 15-team field includes six other Big 12 schools and four ranked teams.  The tournament is hosted by the University of Texas and is being played at the 7,154-yard, par-72 University of Texas Golf Club. The second round will be played tomorrow with the final round being played on Sunday.
