Women's Golf in Third Place

NORMAN, Okla. The Oklahoma women's golf team is in third place with a 315 (+27) after Friday's first round of the “Mo” Morial Invitational in Bryan, Texas. The Sooners are nine strokes behind leader Texas A&M, who is hosting the event at the 6,226-yard, par-72 Traditions Golf Course.

Sophomore Kelly Jacques and junior Jaclyn Stelzer are leading the way for OU by occupying two top-10 places. Jacques is tied for fifth with a 75 (+3) and Stelzer is tied for ninth after shooting a 77 (+5). True freshman Kendall Dye posted an 80 (+8), which places her in a tie for 29th place. After carding an 83 (+11), sophomore Heather Wright is tied for 53rd place and lone senior Amparo Gala is tied for 59th place with a first-round 84 (+12).

The 18-team field includes seven other Big 12 schools and three ranked teams. Tournament play will resume tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. with the final round being played Sunday.
