NORMAN, Okla. --  Newcomer Kyle McNamara had no hesitations when given the chance to join the Sooner team in Oklahoma.  McNamara said he saw the talent and discipline of  past OU squads and couldn't pass the promised opportunity of wearing crimson.

This Colorado all-around state champion has enjoyed his move into Sooner Nation and now has his sights set on earning the school's seventh national title.

What was it like competing in your home state last week?
“It was pretty nice.  It felt like a normal meet, having my family being there.”

What would you like to improve on this season?
“Basically, my consistency.  I'd like to get better in high bar and pommel horse.  Lately they have been my favorite events but they haven't been as consistent as I would like them to be.”

Why did you choose OU?
“I liked the team atmosphere.  We're like a family, we hang out all the time. It's pretty cool, you don't find that everywhere.”

What is the adjustment between club and collegiate gymnastics?
“It was actually pretty easy.  I like competing for the University better than club because the team has more people on your ability level.

“At clubs, you're usually one of the only guys on your specific level. That makes it hard to get competition and stay motivated to get better. Here, there always people better than you.  It keeps me going.”

What professional sports team did you grow up rooting for?
“Colorado Avalanche hockey team.  I used to play hockey in middle school so it's something I enjoy keeping up with.”

What hobbies do you enjoy when you aren't doing gymnastics?
“Right now it's mainly sleeping.  But usually when I have nothing else to do, its extreme sports. I like cliff jumping, skydiving and really anything like that. Anything that gets your adrenaline going.”

What future meet are you looking forward to the most?
“I'm so excited about hosting the National Championship.  I'm looking forward to that because I have never experienced it.  I hear it's pretty intense.”

How have your team captains helped you learn the system and feel welcome in the Sooner family?
“They have made us all feel really welcome.  At the beginning of the year, they hung out with us a lot.  They show us what to do and what not to do, helping us get used to it all.”

Have you set any individual goals for your career at OU?
“I would like to compete all-around by the time I am a senior.  I would love to contribute to the team by competing in all the events.”

What is the best advice a coach has ever given you?
“Even on your bad days, do the best you can.  Maintain a positive attitude.”
