OU Invades Stadium for Media Day

December 30, 2006 | Football

GLENDALE, Ariz.  Oklahoma and Boise State players and coaches took turns in front of the cameras at the official Fiesta Bowl Media Day inside University of Phoenix Stadium Saturday morning.

Both squads got their first looks at the impressive structure which will host the game on New Year's Day. The Sooners and Broncos kick off the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl at 7:30 p.m. Central, Jan. 1.

“You know, this is a great venue, great stadium,” OU head coach Bob Stoops said. “But in the end, does it change anything we're doing? No. We're excited, though, to be playing a really good football team in Boise State. That's what kind of gets your attention more than where you're playing.”

The Sooners' head coach said he expects nothing but the best effort from his team come game time.

“We're just anxious at this point in the week,” Stoops said, “you're kind of looking forward to the game. Our guys have prepared really well. I've been very pleased with how we've practiced. We've really put ourselves in a good, strong position going into the football game.”

“A great day,” said Stoops of what he expects of Adrian Peterson's first game since Oct. 14. “He's a great competitor, a guy that loves to play. He's very anxious to play. He's been getting a lot of great work the last couple of weeks. We're anxious to get him out there and play, see him play like we're so used to watching him.”

Boise State head coach Chris Petersen said he also looks forward to the first matchup between the two teams and expects a tough, hard-fought battle.

“Oh, yeah, no question, this is the best team we've seen,” Petersen said. “We've been saying it all along, I think you guys know as well as anybody, a play here and a play there, these guys are playing eight days from now. When you put a tape on, study them, you can see there's a reason they're Oklahoma.”
