OU Names Captains at Willow Springs

CHANDLER, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma baseball team visited the Willow Spring Boys Ranch in Chandler, Okla., on Thursday for the second consecutive year.
The afternoon featured interaction with the kids, community service work, a campfire dinner and team-building exercises and was concluded with head coach Sunny Golloway naming seniors Aaron Ivey and Jimmy Rollins and juniors Ryan Mottern, Aaron Reza and Jackson Williams the captains of the 2007 squad.
"These five young men have earned the honor of being named the captains of this team," said Golloway. "The coaching staff has the utmost confidence in them and their ability to lead the team on and off the field in 2007."

OU arrived at the facility in the early afternoon and then the team divided into groups and helped clean up the area by mowing, weed eating and trimming trees, among other duties.
"When we first visited the Willow Springs Boys Ranch for the first time in 2005, we knew that we wanted to come back because it was such a beneficial experience," said Golloway. "This was a great opportunity for the team to realize how important it is to give back to the community."
Willow Springs Boys Ranch is a long-term residential childcare facility that accepts applications from boys between the ages 7 to 12 years old. Boys are able to live on the ranch until they graduate from high school, obtain their G.E.D. or participate in an independent living program after graduation. It is the program's goal to provide an environment where boys can become successful and develop into productive adults.
"I think experiences such as these help us realize how lucky we are," added Golloway. "I think the players really enjoyed interacting with the kids and this is something we will continue to look forward to in the future."
Once the various landscaping duties were completed, the Sooners shared dinner, campfire style, with the boys at the ranch. After dinner, Coach Golloway announced the 2007 captains to the group and then the team participated in the ropes course at the facility.
The Sooners open the 2007 season on Feb. 2 in the UTPA Classic in Edinburg, Texas, against Texas State at 5 p.m.
