Peterson Out This Week

NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson will not play in this week's game at Oklahoma State. Sooner head coach Bob Stoops made that announcement on the Big 12 Conference's weekly coaches call, Monday.

Peterson suffered a broken collarbone in OU's Big 12 opener vs. Iowa State. There had been some speculation that he might be ready to return this week, but Stoops said, "The scan did not show the healing that needs to occur to get him cleared so he's not going to play this week."

The door is still open for Peterson to return for Oklahoma's bowl game.

Peterson has missed five games, but there is only one Big 12 rusher that has surprassed his 935 net yards for the season. Kansas' Jon Cornish has 1,331. Had the OU standout remained healthy and maintained his 155-yard per game average, his current total would exceed 1,700 yards.

With 3,968 career yards, Peterson ranks No. 4 at Oklahoma, just 150 shy of Billy Sims' career mark of 4,118.

The Sooners have not had either of their top two running backs over the last two weeks. In addition to Peterson's absence, OU has been without Allen Patrick, who suffered a sprained ankle at Texas A&M. Even without those two, Oklahoma managed wins over Texas Tech and Baylor.

Patrick's status for this weekend's game is yet to be determined.

True freshman Chris Brown was the leading rusher in both of those games. He carried 16 times for 84 yards and two touchdowns versus the Red Raiders, then came back with 24 attempts for 169 yards and one touchdown against the Bears

The 101st Bedlam matchup kicks off at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, at Stillwater, Okla.
