2006 Sooner Gameday Central | The Sooner Experience

NORMAN |
Former Sooner great Brian Bosworth attended the OU-Texas Tech game Saturday night and took some time to answer fan questions at SoonerSports.com.

Brian Bosworth was a consensus All-American in both 1985 and 1986. One of the greatest college football players of all time, he set the school record for tackles in a game with 22 against Miami in 1986.

The only collegian ever to win the Butkus Award twice, he led the Sooners in tackles during 1984-86 along with being named All-Big Eight each of those years. Also an excellent student, the "Boz" was a GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-American in 1986.

Alycia from Alva:
Brian, I have always been a big fan of yours. What was your favorite memory while attending OU?
My favorite memory while playing for the Sooners was the fact that Oklahoma never lost to Nebraska, Texas or Oklahoma State.

Chris from San Antonio, Texas:
Have you ever thought about going into coaching?

Yes, Chris, I have thought about going into coaching. Sometimes I wish I had.

Robin from Healdton:
If you could re-live any moment as a player what would it be and why?

I would obviously like to play the National Championship game (1988 Orange Bowl) over.

Tim from Petersburg, Va.:
Do you stay in contact with any of your great defensive teammates from your OU years like Dante Jones, Tony Casillas, Sonny Brown, Ricky Dixon, Kevin Murphy, Darrell Reed, etc.?

I have not stayed in touch with my former teammates as much as I had hoped.

Terry from Newkirk:
Who would you say was the biggest clown on the those teams back in '85?

Ricky Dixon on Fridays.

Jeff from Jenks:
Was it tough to see your nephews go to UCLA? Would you have liked to see them at Oklahoma?

I felt it would be tough on them if they chose to come to Oklahoma. Korey and Kyle are very competitive and they know they have to make it on their own.

Jim from Tulsa:
Brian, what advice would you give a young player today?

Life never slows down or stops. You have to work every day and give back when you can.

Eddie from Muskogee:
What would you have done different in the Miami games? You are still the standard for college linebackers.

Thanks for the compliment. I really don't believe there was anything different that we needed to do against Miami -- we did the best we could. They were just better than us that day.

Logan from Edmond:
What made the '85 Sooner defense so dominant?

We believed in every player that played. We had no first or second team, no stars -- just one team.

Big Rig from Wetumpka:
How did you make your mind up to play for OU?

I was born in Oklahoma. There was no other choice.

Linn from Houston, Texas:
What is your opinion of the current BCS and how would you like to see a champion determined?

In my opinion, I would have the top four teams (in a playoff). Each conference would also have to have a conference championship game.

Michael from Mt. Juliet, Tenn.:
What has been keeping you busy lately?

I work in real estate when I'm not coaching my son. I'm also reading different scripts for various movies and television shows.

Fred from Philipstown, N.Y.:
Boz, how does the size and speed of today's atheletes compare to your time in Norman?

Fred, I believe that athletes aren't measured by their size or speed. It is the size of the athlete's hearts and how much they love their sport. Speed and size grow from that.

Rocky from Fort Gibson:
In your opinion, who has been the best to play linebacker at OU?

Rocky, there are too many great linebackers that have played for Oklahoma to pick just one!

Robin from Wilmington, N.C.:
Do you think you had a part in changing the prototype linebacker to what it is today from what it was pre-Boz?

Hopefully, I put a lot of passion into the position that the linebackers feed off of today.
