Sooner Offense Too Much For UNI
October 20, 2006 | Soccer
NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma Sooners had no trouble with visiting Northern Iowa on Friday, posting a 5-0 victory to improve to 7-9-1 overall (3-5-1 Big 12) on senior night at John Crain Field. The loss drops the Panthers to 1-15 on the season.
The senior class helped the Sooner offense post a season-high five goals as three of the four seniors tallied scores and the other, Andrea Hurley, helped the defense record its sixth shutout of the season.
Senior Kady Kelly, the team's leading scorer, started the scoring and netted her seventh goal of the season in the 18th minute (assisted by freshman Ashley Farrand).

Less than two minutes later, senior Savannah Scott found the back of the net at the 18:45 mark and was set up by Audri Habibi's pass inside the box.
With a 4-0 lead, senior Christie Smeal joined in the offensive outburst with her second goal of the season in the 85th minute.
“The goal tonight was to get sharp again (on offense),” said OU head coach Randy Evans. “We went on a great run earlier (this season) and didn't come out how we expected against Baylor last weekend. I thought our offense played well and it was great that Jenny (Nichols) got another shutout tonight because she deserved it.”
Nichols (7-9-1), who recently moved into sole possession of second place all-time at OU with 12 career shutouts, added her 13th on Friday after making four saves. The Sooners' goalkeeper had plenty of goal support as Habibi tallied her third of the season in the first half and freshman Kate Leyendecker scored her first career goal in the second session.
Oklahoma outshot the opposition 21-7 and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks. Kelly recorded a game-high six shots in the game.
OU has one game remaining on the Big 12 slate with Nebraska coming to Norman on Sunday, Oct. 22. That game is slated for a 1 p.m. start at John Crain Field. The Cornhuskers (8-6-3, 3-5-1) lost at Oklahoma State on Friday night, 2-0, and remain in a tie for fifth place in the Big 12 standings with the Sooners and Colorado.
