NORMAN, Okla. -- After a week and a half of fall practice, the Sooners completed their sixth intrasquad scrimmage on Monday, which also marked the end of the second three-game series of the fall.

The OU coaching staff has divided the team into two seperate squads for each three-game series played. The start of the next series is scheduled for Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at L. Dale Mitchell Park.  The seventh scrimmage is free and open to the public and will begin after the Sooners take batting practice and infield.

On Monday, the offense once again highlighted the contest and continues to strive towards one of the goals established by the coaching staff in the offseason.

"As we move through the fall, we are looking to have more power at the plate and improve our depth on the mound," said OU head coach Sunny Golloway following Monday's scrimmage.  "Our hitters are beginning to show more of a power presence at the plate and Coach (Damon) Minor has really helped make that difference."

Junior outfielder Joe Dunigan has proven to be one of the many offensive bright spots for the Sooners in the fall.  Dunigan hit for the cycle on Monday, collecting a double, home run, triple and single (in that order) after striking out in his first at bat.

Additionally, juniors Jackson Williams and Jarod Freeman each connected for long balls during their two-hit performances on Monday.

"Joe, Jackson, Jarod, Aaron (Baker) and Devin (Shepherd) are hitting the ball with a lot of confidence," added Golloway. "There is also a lot competition going on with our pitching staff."

Some of the competition mentioned by Golloway includes three returning letterwinners (Ryan Mottern, Brad Burns and Jimmy Rollins) who have seen most of the time as the team's starting pitchers in the fall.

"In the first scrimmage, Ryan and Jimmy battled each other and looked solid," said Golloway.  And today, Brad Burns looked more like his oldself."

The coaching staff has also been encouraged by the early development of some of the newcomers on the staff, including freshmen Andrew Doyle, Danny Grande, Garrett Richards and Tyson Seng.

In addition to Wednesday's intrasquad, the Sooners will scrimmage on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning of this week with times yet to be determined.  For more information on scrimmage times, stay tuned to SoonerSports.com or call the OU baseball office at (405) 325-8354.
