NORMAN, Okla. -- The OU baseball team wrapped up the fall season with the third and final game of the Annual Red-White Series on Thursday at L. Dale Mitchell Park. After winning games one and two, the white team completed the sweep with an 8-2 victory in game three.
Senior Joseph Hughes was impressive on the mound for the white squad, tossing six innings of no-hit ball. Hughes struck out seven batters in the start and walked three.
"Joseph pitched extremely well today and with the conclusion of the fall season, it looks like he may have solidified a spot in the rotation," said OU head coach Sunny Golloway. "Its a great luxury to have an athlete like Joseph on your team that has good stuff on the mound and is a solid outfielder as well."
Hughes played in 43 games last year as the Sooners' centerfielder and hit .370 with 20 RBIs. He also made 12 relief appearances on the mound and struck out 16 batters in 16 2/3 innings pitched.

The white team scored the game's initial run in the top of the first frame and added three more runs in the second inning. Sophomore Brandon Moss (2-for-5, 3 RBIs) connected for a two-run single in the second frame and would later add another RBI in the eighth inning.
"Brandon had a good day at the plate and looked like the same hitter that did so well at the end of last season," added Golloway. "The offense continues to get better each day and its not just one or two guys out there putting the ball into play. This team has a solid amount of depth and the coaching staff is extremely pleased with the way the fall has turned out."
Also for the white team, junior Aljay Davis was again successful batting out of leadoff spot, leading both teams with three hits, including an RBI and three runs scored.
After allowing four runs in the first three innings, freshman Andrew Doyle, settled down for the red team to retire five consecutive batters in the fourth and fifth frames. In the start, Doyle surrendered five runs, but only allowed one earned run. The right-hander struck out one batter and gave up four hits through five innings.
The red team broke up the no-hitter in the eighth inning off a single by freshman Zach Hedges. In the ninth inning, freshman Bryant Hernandez and junior Kyle Biery each drove in a run to put the red team on the board.
The team will report back on Jan. 16 for individual workouts and begin team sessions on Jan. 22 in preparation for the 2007 season.
