Garrison Advances in All-American Championships

Sooners Advance to Finals at Regional Indoor Championships

TULSA, Okla. The University of Oklahoma is one step closer in qualifying for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships after defeating Nebraska, 4-0, in the semifinals Saturday night at the ITA Central Region Team Indoor Championships in Tulsa at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

The Sooners dominated the Huskers in singles competition, winning all matches in straight sets. Junior Marek Velicka defeated Jerry Posch, 6-4, 6-3, while senior Tommy Garrison notched a 6-1, 6-4, victory over James Clow. Also winning for the Sooners was freshman Sergey Avdeyev, who registered a 6-4, 7-5 win over Joerg Barthel.

In doubles action, senior Alexei Ivanov and Velicka teamed up to defeat Posch and Mark Tate, 8-3. Seniors Lee Gregg and Matt Long clinched the doubles point with an 8-3 win over Barthel and Renati Melo. 

Oklahoma will take on 58th-ranked Arkansas on Sunday at 4 p.m. in the finals. The winner will qualify for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, held Feb. 17-20 in Seattle, Wa.
