Sooners Head to Michigan for Mary Fossum Invitational

NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma women's golf team will tee off Saturday, Sept. 17, in its second tournament of the fall season at the Mary Fossum Invitationalin in East Lansing, Mich. The tournament is hosted by Michigan State University and will be played at the 72-par, 6,099-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course.
With one tournament behind it, the young but more experienced lineup will include sophomore Kelly Jacques, junior Jaclyn Stelzer, redshirt freshman Staci Smoot, freshman Kendall Dye and sophomore Heather Wright. Junior Megan Goodwin will compete as an individual. The same six golfers competed in last week's Badger Invitational in Madison, Wis.
“There will be a lot of good teams at this tournament, especially Michigan and Michigan State, so I feel good about the level of competition,” said OU head coach Carol Ludvigson. “We learned a lot last week and we will be able to take what we learned with us into this next tournament.”
The 15-field team includes Michigan (ranked No. 27), SMU (33), Michigan State (35), Kent State (37), Northwestern (43), Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Illinois State, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Oklahoma, Princeton, Toledo and Wisconsin. Michigan won the 2004 Mary Fossum Invitational.
Golfers will play a 54-hole format. The first 36 holes will be played on Saturday and the remaining 18 will be played Sunday.

Kelly Jacques: Shot a 224 and posted a career-best seventh-place finish at last week's Badger Invitational ... Posted OU's second-lowest individual average (78.79) as a freshman last year ... Shot a career-low round of 71 and tied for 14th at the Kent Youel Invitational ... Tied for 19th with a 234 at the BU-Tapatio Springs Shootout.
Jaclyn Stelzer: Shot a 227 and finished a career-best 14th at last week's Badger Invitational ... Carded a 235 and tied for 26th at the 2005 Big 12 Championship ... Academic All-Big 12 First Team last year.
Staci Smoot: Finished tied for 47th (shot a 238) at Badger Invitational last week in her first collegiate tournament ... Selected to All-State and all-conference teams all four years in high school.
Kendall Dye: True freshman competing in her second collegiate tournament ... Shot a 237 last week to tie for 44th at the Badger Invitational ... Earned five career wins, 27 top-five finishes and 34 top-10 finishes in high school.
Heather Wright: Opened season with a 239 last week in the Badger Invitational (T49th place) ... Earned a career-best fourth-place finish with a career-low 71 at the BU-Tapatio Springs Shootout last season.
Megan Goodwin: Finished 59th after carding a 244 at last week's Badger Invitational ... Carded a 253 and tied for 72nd at the Lady Puerto Rice Classic last year ... Tied for 74th with a 252 at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Norman.
