OU Concludes Last Practice Before School Begins

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma football team ended preseason training camp on Saturday at the rugby fields with its final practice before school gets underway next week.

The Sooners practiced for over two hours on Saturday and endured temperatures close to 100 degrees. OU head coach Bob Stoops was pleased with the team's effort.

"It was a normal day and the guys finished well," said Coach Stoops following the early afternoon session. "I am sure the guys are anxious for a day and a half off and to get to school."

The Sooners do not have practice scheduled for Sunday. On Monday, the first day of school, the team will vacate the rugby fields for afternoon workouts at the practice field adjacent to Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium (directly south).

On Wednesday, the Sooners will hold a closed scrimmage and perhaps get a better feel for who will be starting not only at quarterback, but other positions before the season opener.

When addressed by the media about the starting quarterback position, the Sooner head coach offered the following.

"We will probably wait till after we work on Wednesday in a short scrimmage," said Coach Stoops. "We will hopefully know something at the end of next week."

Oklahoma kicks off its 111th season of intercollegiate football on Saturday, Sept. 3, against TCU in Norman. The game is set for 11 a.m. and will be televised by ABC.
