Friday, the team went through what has become their daily routine of intrasquad drills before breaking up into 7-on-9 pass skeleton, linemen drills and then rejoining for 30 minutes of team work to end the practice.
Senior Travis Wilson continued to impress coaches and fans alike, leading a group of young receivers destined for substantial playing time this fall.
“I thought he was a great player a year ago,” head coach Bob stoops said of Wilson. “I thought he earned the starting job last year among a group of players that were pretty good.

“I think he may be a little bit overlooked coming into the year, too. He led our team in touchdowns last year and that was with a pretty good receiving corps.”
Wilson caught 11 touchdowns in 2004, besting three first-day NFL draft selections Mark Bradley, Mark Clayton and Brandon Jones.
In the quarterback race, however, Stoops suggested that things are still tight.
“I thought they both (Paul Thompson and Rhett Bomar) did a pretty good job today,” Stoops said. “Both threw the deep ball well. I think, in the end, that's going to be a strong position for us.
“If you look back two years ago nobody knew who Jason White was but two rebuilt knees. Guys were wondering if he could stay on the field for more than two games. I don't think anybody had him on any All-Big 12 teams in the preseason. Hopefully, these guys can come on and have that type of career.”
Stoops also commented that the punting duties would get a more specific look starting with Saturday's scrimmage.
“We're going to push it more starting tomorrow and through next week,” Stoops said. “Mike Knall had an injury this summer that he's been recovering from. Hopefully, Cody's (Freeby) back is better. In practice, Cody has hit it well, but we have to be able to do it when it counts. We're really going to start charting that this week and see how it goes.”
The Sooners have Sunday off before returning for their third of four schedule two-a-day practices beginning at 8:45 a.m.
