NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma football team worked Thursday morning on the rugby fields in the first of two practices slated for the day. The Sooners will return for the evening practice at 6 p.m.
Thursday marked the second installment of two-a-days during the preseason for Oklahoma. OU has one practice on Friday morning scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
The morning session was filled with drills and unit specific work. When the offensive and defensive groups joined together for 11-on-11 work, the emphasis was primarily on short yardage situations with the offense rarely attempting passes over 10 yards.
2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson was back at full strength and participating in every drill.

"He wasn't hurt, it was just a precautionary measure to make sure that he stays loose," said OU head coach Bob Stoops.
Freshman Reggie Smith continued to impress the coaching staff and media contingent. The freshman from Edmond Sante Fe worked extensively at safety on Thursday.
"I have never been around a guy that is as natural at both positions," said Stoops. "We are just trying to find out what is best for him and the team. I think it is safe to say that he is going to play."
Coach Stoops also commented on the retirement of Jason White, which was reported by the Associated Press this morning.
"I am sure that all the extra work could have been bothersome to him health wise and he just decided it was time. I think it is good for him and I know that he will have a successful career in whatever he does."
When asked about the possibility of White entering the coaching ranks, Stoops said, "If he were interested, he would be a great coach."
The second of OU's three preseason scrimmages takes place Saturday at 11 a.m., in Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
Unless otherwise announced, all practices will be held at the rugby fields west of Lloyd Noble Center and all scrimmages will be held at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
All preseason practices and scrimmages are open to the public. Spectators should park in the west LNC parking lots.
