Joseph Named to Outland List

NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma offensive tackle Davin Joseph has been named to the 36-player Outland Trophy Watch List that was announced Wednesday by the Football Writers Association of America. Joseph, a senior from Hallandale, Fla., will attempt to become the Sooners' sixth Outland winner and the second in as many years. OU's Jammal Brown captured the award last season.

The 6-4, 312-pound Joseph has 27 career starts, all at right guard. He moved to the left tackle position during spring practices.

Last season, Joseph tied with center Vince Carter, a Walter Camp All-American, for the fewest missed assignments on the line. He had the second-highest grade on the line at 82% as he helped clear the way for an offense that ranked No. 8 nationally in total yards and No. 14 in scoring. The Sooner offense also produced a pair of Heisman Trophy finalists in Adrian Peterson and Jason White.

Other OU Outland winners, other than Brown, included Jim Weatherall in 1951, J.D. Roberts in 1953, Lee Roy Selmon in 1975 and Greg Roberts in 1978.

The Outland Trophy has been awarded to the best interior offensive or defensive lineman in college football since 1946. The winner is selected by the FWAA's All-America Committee, which selects the association's 25-man team and picks three Outland Trophy finalists.

The 2005 Outland Trophy announcement will be on Dec. 8 in Orlando, Fla., on the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show. The Outland Trophy presentation banquet, sponsored by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee and First Data Corporation, is set for Jan. 12, 2006, in Omaha, Neb.
