Pundits Weigh in on OU's BCS Chances

Pundits Weigh in on OU's BCS Chances

June 17, 2005 | Football

NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma's 2005 season kicks off in roughly 11 weeks on September 3 in Norman against TCU. There's a long summer between now and then, but that hasn't stopped college football pundits from making early predictions on OU's BCS bowl chances.

Three writers at CollegeFootballNews.com all predict the Sooners to make a BCS bowl game in the upcoming season. And all three have Oklahoma playing in the Fiesta Bowl as Big 12 Champions.

Richard Cirminiello writes, "For a change, everyone is overlooking the Sooners, which is unfamiliar territory for the program. There will be new starters littered throughout the two-deep, but Adrian Peterson is back and the coaching staff is still the best in the Big 12, which is a pretty good place to start.

"If OU makes it six straight against Texas, don't be surprised if they're 7-0 by the time your kids are treat or treating..."

Pete Fiutak writes, "Oklahoma will be dismissed by everyone after the Orange Bowl performance, but this is still a team loaded with talent, while Texas still has to prove it can get over the Red River Rivalry hump. The Sooners, even if they beat Texas, won't go unbeaten with a possible loss at Texas Tech, but they can still win the Big 12 title."

Finally, Matthew Zemek writes, "Oklahoma might not be at the level of the past few Sooner teams, but with a win over Texas, a BCS bowl is still in Bob Stoops' sights."
