NORMAN, Okla. University of Oklahoma women's gymnastics head coach Steve Nunno announced the addition of Lori Winn for the upcoming season Tuesday, completing his 2005 recruiting class.

“Lori is a great athlete and a very talented gymnast,” Nunno said. “We are thrilled that she decided to come to Oklahoma and be back near her home and family.”

Winn, a transfer from UCLA, will enroll at OU for the fall semester and be eligible for the 2005-06 season.

The 5-foot gymnast is an Oklahoma City native and graduate of Putnam City High School. She competed for the Bruins in 2004, playing a key role in UCLA's record-breaking national championship run that season.

Winn competed in the all-around seven times during the 2004 season, compiling a scoring average of 39.075 and a season's best of 39.425. As a freshman, she recorded highs of 9.9 or better on each of the four apparatusesvault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.

At the club level, Winn trained at Bart Conners Gymnastics Academy with OU assistant coach Jenny Rowland and, previously, at Dynamo Gymnastics under the guidance of Nunno.

“Having coached Lori in the past, I know that she will be a tremendous competitor and leader on our team next season,” Nunno said.

Winn, who studied sociology at UCLA, was the 1999 Junior Olympics National Champion and a member of the national team in 2000. She is also a former Level 10 National all-around champion and has qualified in two U.S. Championships, placing in the top 25 at each.

Winn joins Haley DeProspero, Ashley Jackson and Gina Lesko as the newcomers for the 2006 season.
