NORMAN, Okla. University of Oklahoma men's gymnast Jonathan Horton along with head coach Mark Williams are headed overseas to take part in the 14th International French World Cup in Paris-Bercy, France, on May 20-21.
“It'll be Jonathan's first time to compete at the World Cup,” said Williams. “It is a very prestigious competition with some of the best gymnasts in the world. It's a buildup to the 2005 World Championships.
"It's exciting for Jonathan to be such a young competitor at this level and getting to know the level of competition that he will face on the world level.”
Horton is coming off his first collegiate season which saw him collect six All-America honors to help lead the Sooners to their third national title in the last four years.
Horton is planning on competing on the still rings, vault and high bar. Other members of the U.S. delegation include 2004 Olympian Brett McClure and 2005 NCAA Nissen award winner Guillermo Alvarez.
