Rain Doesn't Deter Sooners Wednesday

April 06, 2005 | Football

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma football team braved sharply cooler temperatures and wet conditions in Norman for its ninth session of spring practice on Wednesday. The Sooners worked for two hours outside on the Bud Wilkinson Practice Fields and at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

"I don't like to go live with scrimmages on anything that's artificial if at all possible," explained head coach Bob Stoops. "The conditions were OK out here -- the rye grass (on Owen Field) is a little slippery when it's wet but we managed."

The Sooners practice once more on Friday before holding the second scrimmage of the spring on Saturday at 1 p.m. The scrimmage will be held in the stadium and is open to the public. Admission is free.

OU wraps up spring practice on Saturday, April 16, with the annual Spring Game at 1 p.m. Tickets are $5 in advance through the OU Athletics Ticket Office or $10 at the gate. All OU students will be admitted free with valid student ID. The game will be webcast live for O-Zone subscribers on SoonerSports.com.

On the practice...
"It was good. We concentrated on a lot of third down and redzone situations. The guys are working hard and they're making each other better. I thought it was pretty good."

On Steven Coleman and Chris Bush...
"Those guys are making good strides. Steve has really come on through the winter. Chris has really got his strength where it needs to be -- oh, he did last year -- but he's with all the extra snaps he's really playing well. From what I've seen, I like the way they're playing"

On dealing with the wind...
"It was good to see the quarterbacks and receivers deal with it. It floats a little here and there. The ball's a little damp but you've still got to be able to catch it. So, it's not that big a deal but it doesn't hurt to get out and do it."

On Adrian Peterson's rehab...
"He's doing a lot of running and a lot of leg lifts. As far as upper body, I imagine Coach Schmidt has him working the one side that's healthy and he'll reap benefits from that. I'm sure they're doing all they can."

On Petersion and Marcus Walker working together...
"I belive they work out at different times because of class schedules. But, during practice you see them doing all their running together, stadiums and stuff like that."
