NORMAN, Okla.   The Oklahoma women's tennis team bounced back into the win column Tuesday after defeating Oral Roberts, 7-0, at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla.  OU snapped its four-match losing streak after sweeping the doubles portion and claiming all six singles points in straight sets.  With the victory, the Sooners improved its overall record to 10-8 overall while the Golden Eagles fell to 3-11.

“It was a tough day to play with the exhausting wind that was blowing all around,” head coach Mark Johnson said.  “Today's win was about surviving the conditions because there were certain things we weren't able to do that we normally would in a match.  I'm just proud the girls fought through it and hung in there for the victory.”

The Sooners got on the board early after claiming all three positions in doubles action.  Freshman Christi Baxley and senior Bethany Griffin earned their sixth win of the season with an 8-1 victory over ORU's Jacquelyn Robles and Laine Sommer at the No. 2 position.  At the No. 3 position, freshmen Rachael Cox and Christy Greenly clinched the doubles point after handily beating ORU's duo of Adrianna Garcia and Deborah Skinstad, 8-2.  Senior Jessica Braver and sophomore Irina Lykina completed the Sooner shutout with an 8-4 win over ORU's Sonia Bailey and Emily Arkel at the top doubles position.

After a strong doubles performance, OU came out firing in singles.  Saluri and Lykina earned the first two singles points for the Sooners with straight set wins at the No.1 and 2 positions, respectively.  Sophomore Anne Carter, who hadn't played since Jan. 28, clinched the match for the Sooners after handily defeating ORU's Skinstad, 6-1, 6-2.

Griffin added another point for OU and didn't drop a game in two sets for a victory over ORU's Sommer at the No. 3 slot.  Sophomore Amanda Pratzel, also competing in her first singles match since January, defeated ORU's Arkel in straight sets, 6-4,6-2, at the No. 4 slot while junior Joi-Lee Beachler rounded out the Sooner scoring with a 6-2, 6-2, win over the Golden Eagles' Robles at the No. 5 position.

OU will play for the second straight day, weather permitting, when it takes on the Wichita State Shockers, Wednesday, April 6, at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla.
