NORMAN, Okla. For the second straight match, the Oklahoma women's tennis team swept its opponent after defeating Wichita State, 7-0, Thursday at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla.   The Sooners won every position in the match, which was originally scheduled for Wednesday but was postponed a day due to inclement weather.  OU pushed its overall record to 11-8 with the victory and WSU fell to 10-8 on the season.

“I thought we played pretty well today,” head coach Mark Johnson said. “We had some really strong starts in singles at all the positions to help us get rolling and secure the victory.”

The Sooners got on the board early after claiming all three positions in doubles.  The duo of senior Heather Saluri and freshman Chelsea Orr remain undefeated on the season (4-0) after blanking WSU's pair of Anna Martorell and Alejandra Ripoll, 8-0, at the No. 3 slot.  Senior Jessica Braver and sophomore Irina Lykina clinched the doubles point for OU after handily defeating Ana Ines Exeni and Wendi Webster, 8-2, at the top singles position.  The tandem of senior Bethany Griffin and Christy Baxley earned their sixth win of the season, a Sooner doubles best, with an 8-3 victory over WSU's Genevieve Spink and Jackie Richey at the No. 2 position.

In singles action, OU remained dominant and took every match in straight sets.  Braver earned the first singles point for the Sooners after serving an ace to sweep her opponent, Ripoll, 6-0, 6-0, and pick up her 10th win of the season.  At the top position, Saluri defeated WSU's Exen, 6-1, 6-0, while freshman Christy Greenly clinched the match for the Sooners with a 6-0, 6-2, victory over Martorell at the No. 6 slot.

Griffin added to the scoreboard with a straight-set (6-1, 6-2) win over Wichita State's Spink at the No. 3 spot.  Lykina, playing at the No. 2 position, blanked Webster in the first set, 6-0, and claimed six straight points to win the second set, 6-3, and earn her fourth-straight victory.  Baxley completed the Sooner sweep by defeating Richey, 6-1, in the first set and winning the tie-breaker set, 7-6.

The Sooners will finish off their four-match home stand Saturday, April 9, when they take on Boston College at 1 p.m. at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman.  Live scoring of the match will be available here at SoonerSports.com
