Men's Gymnastics Signs Legendre

Williams to Throw First Pitch at OU-Nebraska

April 27, 2005 | Men's Gymnastics

NORMAN, Okla. -- After guiding his team to its third national title in four years, OU men's gymnastics coach Mark Williams, will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at the OU-Nebraska baseball game scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Prior to the first pitch, the entire men's team will be honored for its accomplishments throughout the championship run.

"This is a big thrill for me," said Williams.  "I've never gotten to throw a first pitch out at a game.  In 1996, I was with the Olympic team that was recognized at Fenway Park prior to a Boston Red Sox game, but getting to throw the first pitch is a first.

"I'm excited to be recognized by our fans and hopefully I'll get the ball over the plate.  If I'm able to get the ball right down the middle and hit 95 miles-per-hour, I might consider a career change."

The game against the Huskers will be televised by ESPN, Cox channel 29.
