April 20, 2005 | Women's Golf

NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma women's golf team opens up postseason play at the Big 12 Championship April 22-24 at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin. The Big 12 teams will play at the 6,323-yard, par-72 course.

The three-day tournament will be formatted with 18 holes each day. The field consists of all 12 conference teams with three of them ranked in the top 25, including Oklahoma State (7), Missouri (16) and Texas (23).

Competing for the Sooners will be Amparo Gala, Kelly Jacques, Emily Milberger, Jaclyn Stelzer and Heather Wright.

“We're really excited to play in the tournament because we've worked so hard after the Susie Maxwell,” said head coach Carol Ludvigson. “The girls could have easily been discouraged about how we finished, but it actually made them more determined. Our goal is to have three individuals finish in the top 10.”

In 2004, Oklahoma placed fourth in the tournament with a 607 and finished 15 strokes behind first place Texas. Leading the Sooners was Lisa Meldrum, who tied for fourth with a 147.

The Sooners have won conference championships in 1978, 1981, 1990 and 2000. Three individuals have won individual championships, all in Big Eight play.
