Sooners Finish Final Monday Practice

Sooners Finish Final Monday Practice

April 11, 2005 | Football

NORMAN, Okla. -- The OU football team began its final week of spring ball with a session Monday afternoon at the Bud Wilkinson Practice Fields south of Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

The Sooners will hold practices on Wednesday and Friday before concluding with the annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 16, at 1 p.m.

"The guys have been pushing hard," said head coach Bob Stoops after practice. "This is our last week to be out here so we'll be making sure that we get as far along as we can."

On final week...
"We'll keep pushing. We didn't scrimmage today. On Wednesday, we'll probably scrimmage a little bit at the end of practice. Just a team period that lasts 45 minutes like we have a few of the other practices. There will be no pads on Friday -- that's our third no-pads day. And then Saturday will be the spring game."

On progress this spring...
"I like it. I thought the last scrimmage was a lot cleaner and that there were a lot fewer mistakes. The guys are challenging each other in a good way. There's good and bad on each side of the ball but that's what happens when you play against yourself for two hours."

On younger players...
"The receivers are making good progress, the quarterbacks are all learning, progressing well and showing that they have ability. Yes, I'm pleased with them."

Surprised at rapid development of Lewis Baker?
"He still has a ways to go but he works hard at it. He's coming along. I don't think I'm surprised at it. With the practices and the time he's spent on the field, guys make good progress."

On Clint Ingram...
"We've always felt that he's one of our best athletes overall. He's more comfortable and sure of himself and in what he's doing. The confidence shows. You see more and more big plays. He's capable of that. Remember, a year ago, he had a lot of big plays. He's making more this spring. He's making a lot of plays."

On keeping Ingram in on pass plays...
"Yes, probably. We'll get him in more. If not, we've got to put him somewhere else. He doesn't need to be on the bench, I know that. Yes, one way or the other, we intend to have him on the field."
