Michigan State Adds Lucious Selmon to Staff

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State on Saturday hired former University of Oklahoma All-American Lucious Selmon to be its new defensive line coach.

Selmon, 53, replaces Steve Stripling, who resigned last month to accept a similar position at Michigan.

Selmon has been a coach for 27 years. His previous experience includes eight years with the Jacksonville Jaguars and 19 at Oklahoma.

"Our entire coaching staff is excited about acquiring a coach of Lucious Selmon's caliber," Michigan State coach John L. Smith said. "Lucious has experience as a player and coach, plus he's enjoyed great success at the collegiate and professional levels."

Lucious Selmon - 1973 OU All-American

Selmon played two years for the Memphis Southmen (1974-75) in the World Football League before entering coaching. The former All-America defensive lineman is the oldest of three brothers that played at Oklahoma in the 1970s.
