NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma women's golf team is tied for 11th after shooting a 313 in the first round of the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. Wake Forest took the top spot after carding a 294 (+14).
Senior Emily Milberger and freshman Kelly Jacques lead the Sooners after shooting a 77 (+7) and are tied for 33rd. Junior Amparo Gala trails Milberger and Jacques by two strokes and is tied for 50th.
After carding an 80, freshman Heather Wright finished in a tie for 61st. Rounding out the scoring for the Sooners was sophomore Jaclyn Stelzer, who shot an 82 and is tied for 76th.
The SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational, now in its 33rd year, draws top-quality teams and players to Gainesville each year. Three LPGA Rolex Player of the Year honorees--Nancy Lopez, Pat Bradley and Betsy King--have appeared in the tournament's records. The tournament is being played at the 5,773-yard, par-70 University Golf Course.
The second round begins Saturday at 8 a.m. EST.
