NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma wrapped up its Wednesday session by once again conducting team drills inside the stadium. The Sooners will return to work on Friday afternoon before holding the first scrimmage of spring practice on Saturday at 10 a.m.

The scrimmage at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium is open to the public. Admission is free.

Coach Stoops met with the media following Wednesday's practice. "We're plugging away," said Stoops. "Every day there's some good and some bad. That's to be expected. A lot of these guys just need snaps. They've got a good attitude and their doing it."

On offense hitting plays down the field...
"Yes, they hit some nice ones. Travis Wilson had a nice, deep catch. Jacob Gutierrez looked good and made some nice runs. Yes, there were some positives that way."

On Dusty Dvoracek's progress...
"It's been good. Dusty's a hard worker and he's out there doing his part. He's looked good."

On Quentin Chaney and the young receivers...
"He's working and doing some good things but he has a ways to go. The other guys are also making some plays. I'm pleased with what (Chaney's) doing and he's making progress. But I'm pleased with the other guys, too. They're capable of making some plays. I'm not going to single out any of them. I like all of them really."

On the talent at wide receiver...
"These guys are talented guys and they're very capable so it gets down to having the discipline to run the correct routes and to be able to seperate from people and create opportunities. We'll see. The guys coming in the fall have great size and ability too."

On Adrian Peterson and spring ball...
"If he was in spring practice it would be fair to say that he wouldn't be getting a lot of action in scrimmages. In the end, it's working out the shoulder and we'll tend to it as best we can. You know, he wasn't in last spring's practices either. It didn't seem to hurt him a whole lot."

On considering using Peterson on special teams...
"Oh, probably not. He's got plenty to do."

QB Rhett Bomar
On the quarterback competition...
"You need to do well on each play. You need to take each play seriously because, really, if you screw up -- that could be it."

On when he thinks the coaching staff will name a starter...
"I really dont' know. We don't talk about it. That's up to the coaches so we'll see."

QB Paul Thompson
On Quentin Chaney's developement...
"He's coming along real well. He came in -- as all freshman do -- kind of wide-eyed and not really knowing what's going on. But he's been studying film and it's obvious when he comes out here and runs crisp routes and catching the ball. Physically, you can tell he's gifted just by looking at him. If he keeps studying and improving at the pace he's going, he's going to be a great player for us."

On his physical condition...
"Oh, Coach Schmidt -- you can't go wrong. I worked out with him all summer and doing all the extra stuff. I'm excited and I sat out last year so I'm healthy. I had a year to watch Jason (White) and a year to watch him run the offense."

DB D.J. Wolfe
On changing positions...
"At first, I didn't really want to do it because I've been at running back my whole life. But then, I sat down and talked to my parents about it and thought about it. I knew it would benefit the team and give me a better chance of getting on the field so then, I was all for it."

On the importance of playing on special teams...
"I feel like special teams is a good way for a guy to get exposure. Especially if you have a guy a head of you. To get that chance to shine on the field, you have to take your opportunities."

On the toughest thing on playing corner so far...
"It would have to be one-on-ones. Working against Travis Wilson, Jejuan Rankins and the the other receivers we have. But then again, it's the best help you can get as a corner going up against some of the best in the nation. I think it helps a lot."
