The top-seeded OU men's basketball team fended off No. 8 seed Missouri on Friday afternoon in Kansas City, 83-79, to advance to the semifinals of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament.
The Sooners led by 17 in the first half and by as many as 15 in the second half before Missouri stormed back to take four one-point leads in the final five minutes behind 33-for-36 free throw shooting. OU answered on each ensuing possession, however, and won its seventh straight game inside Kemper Arena (it won the 2001 and 2002 Big 12 Tournaments there).
Terrell Everett led five Sooners in double figures in scoring with 18 points and also contributed a game-high seven assists. Drew Lavender netted 17 points and was followed by Taj Gray (15), Lawrence McKenzie (11) and Kevin Bookout (10). Bookout also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the year.
OU takes on No. 4 seed Texas Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m. CST. The winner will play either No. 2 seed Kansas or No. 3 seed Oklahoma State on Sunday in the 2 p.m. championship game.
