Sooners Begin Spring Season at Lady Puerto Rico Classic

The Oklahoma women's golf team will compete in its first tournament of the new year at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Feb. 21-23.
Hosted by Purdue University, the tournament will be played at the 6,000-yard, par-72 Dorado Del Mar Country Club Course. A shotgun start will commence play at 8 a.m. EST, with 18 holes played each day.
Headlining Oklahoma's lineup are senior Emily Milberger and junior Amparo Gala. Milberger finished in the top 20 in three of the four fall tournaments and has a 74.18 stroke average for the season. Milberger tied for fifth at the Kent Youel Invitational where she shot 71-73-73 to finish one over par.
Gala also finished in the top 20 in three tournaments and had her best finish at the Jeannine McHaney Invitational where she placed second with a 143.
Rounding out the OU lineup are sophomore Megan Goodwin, freshman Kelly Jacques and freshman Heather Wright.
"We're very excited about this tournament because of the competitive field," said OU head coach Carol Ludvigson. "The girls are ready to get back at it because we haven't played in so long. Our goal is to finish in the top five as a team, and we're looking forward to a good tournament."
The 13 teams scheduled to compete in the tournament are Auburn (3), California-Berkeley, Florida (16), Georgia (5), Kent State, Penn State, Purdue, Oklahoma (26), TCU, Texas (17), Tulsa (22), USC (21), and Wake Forest (18).
