Women's Tennis Drops Dual To Tulsa, 5-2

NORMAN, Okla. The 24th-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team suffered its second loss of the season Wednesday, losing to No. 61 Tulsa, 5-2, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. The Sooners dropped to 5-2 while the Golden Hurricane improved to 5-3 on the season.
The Golden Hurricane swept the Sooners in doubles action. Tulsa's 57th-ranked duo of Daniela Muscolino and Carla Zabaleta defeated senior Heather Saluri and sophomore Irina Lykina, 8-6. In a match-up of sisters, Tulsa's Timberly Greenly and partner Kindsay Grimes upset Timberly's younger sister, Christy and Bethany Griffin, 8-5.
At No. 3 doubles, the Sooner pair of senior Jessica Braver and freshman Christi Baxley suffered a heart-breaking 9-7 loss to Tulsa's Santie Delport and Lisette Pereira.
The Sooners recorded their only points of the day in singles action at the No. 2 and No. 6 positions. Saluri handily defeated Pereira in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, at the No. 2 position while Baxley continued her undefeated streak at the No. 6 position dominating Tulsa's Grimes, 6-3, 6-2.
In other singles action, Lykina suffered her first loss at the top singles position, losing to Tulsa's No. 54 Muscolino, 6-2, 6-0. OU's Griffin dropped the first set to TU's Zabaleta, 4-6, but bounced back to win the second set, 6-2. Griffin lost the match in the third set losing 3-6. Tulsa's Delport beat OU's Greenly, 6-4, 6-1, while Braver dropped her match to TU's Greenly, 6-2, 6-3.
The Sooners look to bounce back as they head into weekend action in Albuquerque, N.M. OU will take on New Mexico Saturday at 2 p.m. (CST) and Montana State at 10 a.m. Sunday.
