NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops said Thursday that he has begun the search to replace Bo Pelini, who has resigned as co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. Pelini has accepted an appointment as defensive coordinator at LSU.
The former Nebraska assistant and interim head coach was with Oklahoma for the 2004 season.
“Bo made significant contributions in the year he was with us,” Stoops said. “He's an excellent football coach and a good friend. We appreciate everything he did here and wish him all of the best.”
Stoops said the search for Pelini's successor is underway now.
“I am sure we will have a lot of interest in this position,” said Stoops. “I don't have a timetable for the hiring process. We'll conduct the search until we can locate the best candidate. That's the approach I've taken in the past and I like the results it has produced for us.”
