Sooners Add Junior College Pair

NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma signed a pair of junior college players Wednesday during the mid-year signing period. Joey Halzle, a quarterback from Golden West (Calif.) College, and Sherrone Moore, an offensive lineman from Butler County (Kan.) Community College, inked letters of intent and will enroll at OU for the spring semester.

“Joey is an accurate and sharp thrower who fills a need for our program,” said OU head coach Bob Stoops. “We went through most of this season with just one full-time quarterback after Paul Thompson made the move to wide receiver. Joey gives us a quality player and allows us to let Paul compete for the wide receiver job the way he would like to.”

The 6-4, 218 Halzle played at Golden West just one season, the 2005 campaign, when threw for 1,971 yards and 18 touchdowns. He rushed for three more.

At Oak Christian High School in in West Lake Village, Calif., he threw for 2,316 yards and 27 touchdowns as a senior. During that season, completed 143-of-253 passes with just eight interceptions while averaging 16.2 yards per completion.

A three-years starter, he was All-CIF as a senior.

Moore was an All-Jayhawk Conference selection after helping Butler County to the league title and a perfect 7-0 mark. The Grizzlies, who were 9-2 overall, averaged 298.2 yards on the ground and 203.4 through the air.

“Sherrone gives us immediate help. His size, strength and quickness are outstanding. We needed to add quality in our offensive line and Sherrone provides us with the kind of player who can come in here and make a difference very quickly.”

Moore, who started at left tackle, graded out at 90% for the 2005 season and was a two-year starter at Butler.

The 6-5, 305-pounder hails from Derby, Kan., a suburb of Wichita. He was a starter on the Derby football and basketball teams.
