Women's Golf Announces New Recruit

NORMAN, Okla. - During the November early signing period, the University of Oklahoma women's golf team inked Chelsey Collins to a national letter of intent. Collins, from Louisville, Colo., will join the Sooners in 2006-07 after compiling an impressive high school resume.

In 2005, Collins was a member of the CWGA Junior Americas Cup Team, was a Denver Post first-team All-State selection, a Rocky Mountain News first-team All-Colorado pick and first-team all-conference honoree. Between May 2004 and July 2005, Collins participated in 16 Colorado tournaments, finishing in the top 15 every time.

Collins posted 14 top-five finishes during the 2004-05 season, including six first-place finishes. Most notably, Collins took first-place honors at the CJGA Junior World Qualifier, where she shot a career-low 70.

“Chelsey is not only a great golfer, but a great person,” said OU head coach Carol Ludvigson. “She has a good golf background, she comes from a good family, she is well-rounded and she is a good student. She is coming in green which gives us a chance to teach her a lot because she is just scuffing her potential. She has a lot of potential to grow and develop.”

Collins' home course is Omni Interlocken Golf Course and she has been playing golf for 13 years. She attends Monarch High School.
