Women's Hoops Takes TCU, 77-63

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- Courtney Paris had 22 points and 17 rebounds to lead No. 20 Oklahoma to its third straight win, 77-63 over TCU on Wednesday night.

Paris, a freshman from Piedmont, Calif., recorded her fifth double-double of the season and shot 7-for-7 from the field and 8-for-11 from the line.

Adrianne Ross led TCU (2-3) with 18 points. Ashley Davis added 15, and Vanessa Clementino 10.

Ahead by eight at the break, Oklahoma (6-1) opened the second half with a 16-0 run, fueled by 3-pointers from Erin Higgins and Britney Brown.

"I was pleased," said OU head coach Sherri Coale. "We have had a rugged schedule. We have criss-crossed the continental United States. We have been in all kinds of crazy time zones and in between, when we have a day here, we work their (the team's) tails off (in practice). I thought they responded well. I know they're a little bit tired. If we can keep surviving, we'll find a way to win."

Higgins, the Big 12 Conference 3-point leader, shot 4-for-8 from beyond the arc and finished with 16 points.

TCU has lost to three Top 25 opponents in the last nine days.

The Horned Frogs closed within 12 points with just under six minutes remaining. Paris answered with consecutive inside baskets, and the Sooners closed the game by shooting 10-for-10 from the line.

TCU led for nearly the first five minutes before the Sooners went on a 16-3 run to pull ahead 25-12 with seven minutes remaining.

Davis kept the Horned Frogs within striking difference early, hitting 5-of-7 3-pointers in the first half and scoring all 15 of her points in the first half.

Higgins led the Sooners in the first half with 11 points, including a 3-for-5 effort from 3-point range.

“We knew coming in that we probably couldn't match them rebounding," said Jeff Mittie. "We felt like we could do some things with the press, but we only pressed for 15 minutes. I think our leading rebounder had four. We weren't flying around to rebound tonight.

Oklahoma outrebounded TCU 50-28. The Paris sisters -- Courtney and Ashley -- combined for 28 rebounds.

"That's going to be how we win all our games," said Coale. "It's funny that we do that on a night we shoot the ball pretty well. If we had those kind of rebounding numbers when we had our dismal shooting, it would have been a different story. It was nice to see that come back around. I thought we really dominated the glass. We did a great job there."
