October 27, 2005 | Women's Golf

NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma women's golf team will wrap up its fall season at the Las Vegas Founders Collegiate Showdown in Henderson, Nev., beginning Oct. 31 through Nov. 2.  The tournament is hosted by UNLV and will be played at the 6,194-yard, par-72 Anthem Country Club.

Oklahoma will boast a young lineup at the Las Vegas tournament.  True freshman Kendall Dye, redshirt freshman Staci Smoot, sophomore Heather Wright, junior Megan Goodwin and junior Jaclyn Stelzer will compete for the Sooners.

“We have a completely different lineup, which will be interesting,” said head coach Carol Ludvigson.  “It will also help us solidify our lineup for the spring and determine who will be the strongest for those tournaments.”

The 17-team field includes UCLA (2), Pepperdine (4), Arkansas (6), Arizona State (8),  UNLV (11), SMU (22), Arizona (23), BYU, Colorado State, Eastern Washington, Kent State, Missouri, Notre Dame, Oregon, TCU and UC-Irvine.

Golfers will play 54 holes over the period of three days.

“This will be a very competitive tournament,” said Ludvigson.  “We have been finishing mediocre so I would like to finish strong in this tournament, which would give us good momentum before we head into the spring.”

This will be Oklahoma's last tournament of the fall. The Sooners will begin their spring season at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Feb. 24.
