NORMAN, Okla.   The 1984 U.S. Men's Gymnastics Team, which includes former University of Oklahoma gymnast Bart Conner, will be inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame on Thursday, Dec. 8 in honor of the team's gold-medal winning performance during the 1984 Olympic Games.

The seven-man team consisted of Conner, Tim Daggett, Mitch Gaylord, Jim Hartung, Scott Johnson and Peter Vidmar, with Jim Mikus as the alternate.

“Today, 21 years later, people still ask me if I stay in touch with my teammates,” said Conner.  “People saw us bond together for the medal and forever look at us as brothers.  I think we felt that way too.  Everyone is still somewhat connected to the sport, and we still have that bond from what was a life-defining moment for all of us.”

Conner was a member of three Olympic teams (1976, '80, '84) and won two gold medals at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles.   Conner, who took gold on the parallel bars at the 1984 Olympics, was inducted to the Olympic Hall of Fame as an individual in 1991 along with Vidmar.

Conner was Oklahoma's first Nissen Emery award winner in 1981.  He was a seven-time conference champion and nine-time All-American for the Sooners.  He won three individual national championships and led OU to back-to-back national championships in 1977 and 1978.  Conner was also named co-recipient of the Big Eight Conference “Male Athlete of the Year” award in 1981.
