Sooners Play for National Championship

MIAMI, Fla. -- Oklahoma dialed back its physical preparations for the FedEx Orange Bowl on Monday with the game less than 24 hours away. The Sooners held position meetings in the afternoon at the team hotel in Bal Harbour and then departed for a walk-through under the lights at Pro Player Stadium.

After completing the walk-through, the travel squad headed for a secluded hotel to get away from the frenzy of activity the night before the game.

O-Zone Orange Bowl Central | National Championship Central

On Tuesday, the Sooners will stick to their gameday routine with a movie in the morning, position meetings and a pregame meal. The team will then make its way to Pro Player Stadium in the evening and hit the field shortly after 8 p.m. local time (7 p.m. in Oklahoma).

Millions of TV sets across the country will tune in to the ABC broadcast of the BCS National Championship Game. In Oklahoma, KTUL Channel 8 will broadcast the game in Tulsa, KOCO Channel 5 has the game in Oklahoma City and KSWO Channel 7 has the game in Lawton.

Many have predicted it will be the most-watched college football game in history.

I imagine that most of the state of Oklahoma will grind to a halt tomorrow night to watch the Sooners play Southern Cal. When the game kicks off, I'll be thinking about all the fans back home from Boise City to Idabel and Miami to Hollis who will be gathered around their TV sets. Traffic will be light and stores empty in Norman, Tulsa, Lawton and Oklahoma City.

And don't forget Sooner fans in Dallas, Wichita, Houston, Kansas City -- all across the country. To find an OU alumni club near you that will be watching the game together, visit the official OU Alumni Association website.

Troops deployed to Iraq will be up in the middle of the night to watch the game along with Sooners around the globe.

The weather forecast for Tuesday night in Miami looks great. No rain and temperatures in the low 70s with a breeze of about 13 miles an hour from the east.

Tuesday will mark the team's ninth day in south Florida. The players are ready to play the game.
