Mens Gymnastics Releases 2005 Schedule

NORMAN, Okla. Oklahoma men's gymnastics head coach Mark Williams announced the 2005 schedule today, a slate that has the Sooners hosting this year's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship on March 25-26.
The Sooners will open the season in similar fashion to years past with the Rocky Mountain Open at the Air Force Academy on January 14-15. The following weekend pits OU against Michigan in Ann Arbor on Jan. 22, a week before the Sooners host Air Force on Friday, Jan. 28, inside the Lloyd Noble Center at 7 p.m.
“The schedule for 2005 should bring this team along well towards the season goal of a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship and contending for another NCAA Championship,” said Williams. “Our schedule should be challenging with five of the teams ranked in the top 10 from last year. I'm particularly excited about hosting the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in March and having two home duel competitions with the women's team, one at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City.”
OU will host Nebraska on Feb. 13 in Oklahoma City at 4 p.m., while the OU women's gymnastics team hosts Georgia as part of a duel meet at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City. The other duel meet will be held in the Lloyd Noble Center on March 5, when perennial men's power Ohio State comes to Norman. The women will host Texas Women's University and Centenary College that same day.
The Sooners will host one final meet on March 11 at 7 p.m. against the Big Ten's Iowa Hawkeyes. OU will then have its usual two weeks off to prepare for the conference meet held in Norman, Okla., this year in the Lloyd Noble Center. The MPSF team finals will take place on Friday, March 25 at 7 p.m. and will be followed the next day by the individual event finals at 2 p.m.
The last time OU hosted the MPSF Championships was during the 1999 season. The Sooners won their first of five straight conference titles in Norman that year and finished second in the MPSF last season.
OU was the nation's runner-up in 2004, ending its streak of two consecutive NCAA titles. The 2005 NCAA Championships will be hosted by Army in West Point, New York, and will run from April 7-9.
