Stoops: Peterson to Start Saturday

NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops said Tuesday that true freshman Adrian Peterson will start at running back this Saturday when the Sooners host Texas Tech.  Peterson ranks ninth nationally with 133.3 yards per game (6.2 per carry).  
 
Peterson is the first freshman in Oklahoma history to rush for 100 yards in each of his first three game games.  One other Sooner reached 100 yards in his first three games.  That was quarterback Steve Davis, a sophomore at the time, who achieved the feat in the first three games of 1974.

Sooner Gameday Central: Texas Tech

  In 2002, Kejuan Jones set a school record for touchdowns by a freshman with 14.  Peterson already has five.

  Peterson draws comparison to another outstanding freshman back, Maurice Clarrett of Ohio State.  In his first three games, Clarrett had 63 rushes for 471 yards and six touchdowns.  Peterson has 65 rushes for 400 yards and five touchdowns.
