OU Women Golfers Finish Seventh At Lady Northern Invitational

NORMAN, Okla. -- The 15th-ranked University of Oklahoma women's golf team finished in second place at the Jeannine McHaney Invitational in Lubbock, Texas, on Sunday. The Sooners recorded a 299 (+11) in the final round to finish with an overall score of 597 (+21), four strokes behind tournament champion Notre Dame. Due to rain, the originally planned three-round 54-hole event was cut to two rounds and 36 holes.

Junior Amparo Gala led the team after carding a final-round 72 (even) and earned runner-up honors with a total of 143 (-1). Gala finished two shots behind medalist Katie Brophy of Notre Dame.  OU senior Emily Milberger tied for sixth and finished with a total of 148 (+4).

Tying for 36th, freshman Heather Wright recorded a final-round score of 80 (+8) and finished the tournament with a 154 (+10). Fellow freshman Kelly Jacques tied for 47th after posting a final score of 155 (+11) and carding a 77 (+5) in the final round of play. Sophomore Jaclyn Stelzer shot a 77 (+5) on Sunday to finish with a 157 (+13) and tied for 58th.

Rounding out the scoring for the Sooners, sophomore Alana Donaldson tied for 91st with a final-round score of 82 (+10) and a tournament total of 166 (+22).  She competed as an individual. 

The Jeannine McHaney Invitational consisted of three of the top 25 teams in the country and was played at the 6,234-yard, par-72 Rawls Course.

The Sooners will resume action on Oct.1-3 at the Mason Rudolph Championships at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.
