OU Women Golfers Finish Seventh At Lady Northern Invitational

NORMAN, Okla. -- Playing in its first tournament of the season, the University of Oklahoma women's golf team finished in seventh place at the Lady Northern Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Sunday. The Sooners recorded a 314 (+26) in the final round to finish with an overall score of 920 (+56), 39 strokes behind tournament champion Michigan.
Junior Amparo Gala led the team after carding a final-round 77 (+5) and earned 12th place honors with a total of 226 (+10). Senior Emily Milberger tied for 17th and finished one stroke behind Gala on Sunday, giving her a tournament total of 227 (+11).
Tying for 28th, freshman Kelly Jacques recorded a final-round score of 77 (+5) and finished the tournament with a 230 (+14). Fellow freshman Heather Wright tied for 52nd after posting a final score of 238 (+22) and carding a 82 (+10) in the final round of play.
Rounding out the individual scoring for the Sooners, sophomore Jaclyn Stelzer captured 55th place with a final-round score of 82 (+10) and a tournament total of 239 (+23). Sophomore Megan Goodwin shot a 87 (+15) on Sunday to finish with a 258 (+42) and tied for 91st.
The Lady Northern Invitational consisted of three of the top 25 teams in the country and was played at the 5,966-yard, par 72 University of Michigan Golf Course.
The Sooners will resume action on Sept. 24-26 at the Texas Tech Invitational in Lubbock, Texas.
