ESPN.com writers including Wayne Drehs and Ivan Maisel will lead a team producing feature stories, ESPN Motion Video and photo packages. Drehs' initial story, which will appear Wednesday, Sept. 1, looks at the game operations and planning sessions leading up to Oklahoma's season opener against Bowling Green, Sept. 4.
“There is a lot more than meets the eye when it comes to putting the final product on the field,” said Kenny Mossman, OU's associate athletics director for media relations. “Most fans see only that which takes place on Saturday. I think it will be intriguing for them to also see the enormity and detail of what leads up to the time when the team takes the field.”
OU coach Bob Stoops agreed, adding, “People only see the final product of what's on the field and don't see all the preparation and dedication and hard work of all the people behind the scenes. The Scott Andersons (athletic trainer), the Greg Tiptons (equipment manager), all the people in our building that support and help these players, the grounds crew. People have no idea all that goes into this. It's a massive production. And we wouldn't be where we are without them."
OU met with ESPN.com before the actual gathering of information and interviews began to discuss potential story ideas, and Drehs then spent two full days in Norman last week getting material for the first installments of the series.
