Oklahoma Drill Fires Up Team

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma Drill highlighted the fifth preseason practice for the Sooners on Friday evening at the Rugby Fields on the Norman campus during another day of clear skies and cool temperatures. One defensive and one offensive player went head-to-head in front of an enthusiastic crowd of teammates, coaches and fans lining the practice field.

Friday's workout also marked the first session in full pads after donning uppers for the first time on Thursday.

"It was good to have them in full pads and fun to see the guys competing against each other in the Oklahoma Drill," said OU head coach Bob Stoops.  "Each side of the ball, as usual, had their share of good plays.  It is always good to see one-on-one physical play and I thought the guys did a good job out there today.

"We are pretty physical in just shoulder pads and shorts but today was a bit of a change.  Everything we do should be up high, so there is not much of a difference.  However, it was a bit more physical and there were times when we had to calm them down a bit.  Today was a like a scrimmage but Sunday evening will be our first real go at it."

On freshman running back Adrian Peterson
"He is still thinking and learning and I am sure his mind is going a million miles a minute," Stoops commented.  "There are a lot of things that he is still learning but he has a great attitude and shows great signs of explosiveness and the ability to make cuts."

Oklahoma will practice at 8:45 a.m. Saturday and then return for a 5:15 p.m. session in the first installment of two-a-days. Start times are subject to adjustment, so check SoonerSports.com for the latest information.
