May 08, 2004 | Women's Golf
NORMAN, Okla. The Oklahoma women's golf team ended its season at the NCAA Central Regional in Normal, Ill., where they placed 14th with a tournament total of 946 (+94). The fifth-seeded Sooners recorded a final-round 314 (+30), seven strokes better than the previous round, but did not finish among the top eight teams which would have given them a bid to the NCAA Championships.
Vanderbilt, the No. 1 seed, won the NCAA Central Regional with 893 (+41) total strokes. The 21-team field played at the 6,500-yard, par-71 University Golf Course.
Competing in her final collegiate tournament, senior Lisa Meldrum led all Sooners and finished tied for 31st with a 232 (+19) after carding a final-round 77 (+6). Meldrum had an impressive year after being named Big 12 Golfer of the Month twice, a first-team All-Big 12 selection and a second-team Academic All-Big 12 team member.
Senior Hope Edge, also playing in her final collegiate tournament, fired her best round of the regional with a six-over-par 77. Edge tied for 40th with 234 (+21) total strokes. Edge was named to the first-team Academic All-Big 12 for the fourth consecutive year.
