NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma has been awarded one of the 16 regional sites for the 2004 NCAA Baseball Tournament.
OU entered the bid with the Oklahoma Redhawks and those entities will host the event at Bricktown Ballpark in downtown Oklahoma City. Three other teams will join the Sooners for the regional, which runs Friday through Sunday. The winner will move on to one of eight super regionals.
Those sites will be announced June 6.
Oklahoma, 37-22, will learn the other three regional contestants Monday at 11 a.m., during a half-hour show on ESPN2. The tournament field is comprised of 64 teams, 30 conference champions and 34 at-large selections.
Oklahoma has hosted four previous NCAA baseball regionals, including two in Oklahoma City.
This will be the fourth NCAA event Oklahoma has hosted this school year. OU also hosted the women's basketball Midwest Regional, first round action in the women's tennis tournament and the women's college world series.
Oklahoma played host to Big 12 championships in Big 12 men's and women's track and field, Big 12 men's and women's tennis and softball.
The College World Series is set to begin on Friday, June 18, at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb.
